HMD Global Rolling Out Android 11 to the Nokia 8.1 and Nokia 2.3

As promised, HMD Global continues its rollout of Android 11 to its older phones–this time with the Nokia 8.1 and Nokia 2.3. The former was launched in late 2018, while the latter was launched in early 2019.

We have confirmed on our Nokia 8.1 that the update is being rolled out. Weighing in at a little over 1.5GB, the update brings in key Android 11 features like organized conversation management, stricter permissions management. In addition, the update includes the March 2021 security patch. The same should be expected for users of the Nokia 2.3, as the Philippines is one of the first countries in line for the upgrade rollout.

By now, the Nokia 8.1 has received Android 10 and Android 11, which is true to HMD Global’s promise of delivering at least two major updates to the late 2018 mid-range phone. The same applies to the Nokia 2.3, which has also received two major updates by now. This is an accomplishment for HMD Global, as it remains to be one of the few–if not the only–phone brand that stays true to providing at least two major Android updates to all of its phones, including entry-level ones.

Aside from the Nokia 8.1 and Nokia 2.3, the Nokia 8.3 and Nokia 3.2 have received Android 11, and HMD Global is expected to roll out the update to more of its devices in the coming weeks.
