We Think that this Flagship Killer is Worth the Wait – realme GT 6 First Impressions

Initial verdict: We’re very excited about the realme GT 6 as it is the first time in a while that the brand has a flagship killer in its portfolio. The GT 6 is very promising for what it offers based on our initial experience, and the most crucial part is how realme will price it in the Philippines.

Pros

  • Extremely bright display
  • Promising camera setup

Cons

  • The mirror-like finish is a smudge magnet
  • Pricing will play a big factor

It’s been a long 2 years since we last had a GT series phone from realme, and that wait will soon be over with the impending arrival of the GT 6. The flagship killer is a highly anticipated device, as it is the first time in a while since realme made its GT series phones available for the global market.

realme GT 6 First Impressions Philippines: Design

The GT 6 has a high-gloss finish that has a dual-tone design. The area where the cameras are have a mirror-like finish, while the rest of the phone is finished in Silver. There’s also a Green colorway, but regardless of what you choose you need to be mindful of its surface–it’s a fingerprint magnet, especially with the silver part of the GT 6’s back panel.

There are three individual rings for its cameras and LED flash, along with a 50MP AI camera branding on the right side. Yes, the GT 6 goes all in with AI, and realme has incorporated several features to make good use of it.

The button and port layout of the GT 6 is similar to the realme 12 Pro+, and that includes a curved display and SIM card tray at the bottom.

As a flagship killer, one of the key highlights of the GT 6 is its 6.78-inch 120hz LTPO AMOLED display, which boasts an incredible peak brightness of 6000nits. The display is very bright, that it can rival other premium flagship phones when used outdoors.

Aside from being bright, we noticed that the display’s chin is slimmer than usual, and the colors pop out. From our initial use, the GT 6’s display is superb when watching our favorite KPop videos in 4K. We will reserve our judgment in the full review, so stay tuned for that.

realme GT 6 First Impressions Philippines: Cameras

As mentioned earlier, the GT 6 has a 50-megapixel main camera and uses an LYT-808 sensor, which you’d find on premium flagship phones like the OnePlus 12. With the realme 12 Pro+ raising the bar with its periscope camera, the GT 6 comes with a 50-megapixel 2x telephoto camera that has a focal equivalent of 47mm. That makes the telephoto camera great for taking portraits.

Aside from promising hardware, realme equipped the GT 6 with powerful software features that include Super Nightscape Mode and AI Night Vision Mode. We will extensively test the GT 6’s cameras and give our full verdict in the full review.

realme GT 6 First Impressions Philippines: Internals and Battery

As a flagship killer, the GT 6 comes with a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor, which by itself is a powerful chip and a good alternative to the likes of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Our review unit comes with 12GB RAM and 256GB internal storage, and we’re not sure if realme will offer other variants as well.

The GT 6 comes with Android 14-based realmeUI 5.1, and it comes with several AI features like AI Smart Loop and AI Smart Removal that are meant for users to be more productive and efficient.

The GT 6 has a bigger-than-usual 5500mAh battery that’s paired with 120w charging, making it one of the best battery/charging speed combinations we’ve seen on a phone. We still have to do our tests to determine how fast the GT 6 tops up its battery–for reference, a 5000mAh battery usually tops up in around 20 minutes with 120w charging.
