Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ Might Sport A Magnesium Alloy Frame

It’s stronger and lighter than aluminum

While we got to know some key specs of the upcoming Galaxy S9 and S9+, it turns out Samsung is going to make some major changes to both phones when it comes to materials. Recently, a patent filing for Metal 12 was spotted at the European Union Intellectual Property Office.

For those who do not know, Metal 12 is Samsung’s proprietary material, which is made from magnesium-aluminum alloy. The said material is lighter and stronger compared to aluminum.

Now if you would read the filing carefully, it is noted that Metal 12 will be also used for smartphones and tablet computers, which makes it plausible to Samsung to use it for the Galaxy S9 and S9+. After all, it is a possibility, as it was revealed that Samsung previously made a prototype Galaxy S7 made out of Magnesium. Lately, Samsung used Metal 12 for its Notebook 9 (2018) laptops.

We still have to wait if Samsung will indeed be using Metal 12 for the Galaxy S9 and S9+, so stay tuned.
