Xiaomi Rains on Samsung’s Parade with the MIX Fold 2

As expected, Xiaomi wanted to rain on Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold4 launch with the announcement of the MIX Fold 2 in China. While its not as feature-packed as the original MIX Fold, Xiaomi’s goal for the MIX Fold 2 is making it one of the thinnest foldable phones out there. Not accounting for the huge, Leica-branded camera bump, the MIX Fold 2 is 5.4mm thick when unfolded, and 11.2mm when folded. For comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold4 is 6.3mm thick when unfolded and 14.2mm to 15.8mm when folded.

Unlike Samsung’s take, Xiaomi was able to design the hinge in a way that it virtually eliminates any gaps. As for the huge, protruding camera bump, the MIX Fold 2 has a 50-megapixel IMX 766 main camera with OIS, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, and an 8-megapixel telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom.

Going to the displays, the MIX Fold 2 has an 8.02-inch inner display with a 120hz refresh rate and a punch-hole for the 20-megapixel selfie shooter, and a 6.56-inch AMOLED outer display with a 120hz refresh rate and a 21:9 aspect ratio. Being a flagship device, you get a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor with 12GB RAM and up to 1TB storage, along with a 4500mAh battery with support for 67w wired charging.

Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 Specs

The MIX Fold 2 is priced at CNY 8999(~Php 73.9k) for the 256GB model, CNY 9999(~Php 82.2k) for the 512GB model, and CNY 11999(~Php 98.6k) for the 1TB model. Official availability begins on August 16 in China, and just like the original MIX Fold, there’s no indication of Xiaomi making the MIX Fold 2 available outside of China.
