As a foldable, you get an 8.01-inch Quad HD+ OLED inner display that is supported by a U-shaped hinge—Xiaomi claims that their solution is 27% lighter and just as durable as conventional solutions. The OLED panel supports HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and DCI-P3, and has a peak brightness of 900nits.

On the outside, you get a 6.52-inch AMOLED display with an extra tall 27:9 aspect ratio and an 840×2520 resolution. Unlike the foldable inner panel, this one has a 90hz refresh rate and 180hz touch sampling. Like the inner panel, the outer panel supports HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and DCI-P3.

The Mi MIX FOLD is a great entertainment phone as it comes with Harman Kardon-tuned quad speakers—which is a first for a smartphone. With the quad speaker system, the Mi Mix Fold can output a 3D spatial audio field for an immersive audio experience.

The amount of innovation with the Mi MIX FOLD does not stop there: it debuts Xiaomi’s in-house Surge C1 processor which aids in improving overall photography algorithm for better autofocus, exposure, and white balance.

On top of that, it is also the first smartphone to sport Liquid Lens technology. Following the principle of the human eye, this bleeding edge tech makes use of a transparent fluid wrapped in film, which is controlled by a high-precision motor. Together with the Surge C1, the MI MIX FOLD can do 3x optical zoom up to 30x telephoto zoom, along with a minimum focusing distance of 3cm. With this tech, Xiaomi managed to cover the function of two lenses.

Extreme temperatures is not an issue, as the Mi MIX FOLD’s liquid lens is tested for temperatures as low as -40 degrees celsius to 60 degrees celsius. Accompanying the 8-megapixel, liquid lens-equipped telephoto camera is a 108-megapixel main camera and 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera.

Powering the Mi MIX FOLD is a Snapdragon 888 processor that is paired with up to 16GB LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB UFS 3.1 storage. A 5020mAh battery—which is split into a 2460mAh and 2560mAh cells—fuels the device, and charges though a 67w wired charging solution that can top up the battery system from flat to 100% in approximately 37 minutes.

To keep things cool, the Mi MIX FOLD adopts a butterfly-type cooling system that combines VC liquid cooling, thermal gel, and multilayer graphite sheets. To wrap things up, the Mi MIX FOLD comes in a standard or Ceramic edition. The former uses Gorilla Glass 5 for the back panel, while the latter uses a black ceramic back with laser engraving and a gold middle frame and volume buttons.
