The vivo X80 Debuts A Sony IMX866 RGBW Main Camera

Aside from the X80 Pro, vivo also announced a toned-down vanilla version that keeps some of the Pro model’s features while offering a lower price tag in an effort to be competitive against other flagship phones in the market.

The vanilla X80 omits the periscope camera found on its Pro sibling and gets a lower-resolution 12-megapixel IMX663 for the ultra-wide-angle camera. The main camera is an all-new IMX866, which uses an RGBW array that aims to capture more light compared to conventional RGB arrays. You still get vivo’s V1+ ISP on the vanilla X80, along with T* coating for the lens.

The display may be of the same size, but the vanilla X80 has a Full HD+ resolution and no LTPO 2.0 tech for its fast 120hz refresh rate. You also lose the IP68 rating on the vanilla X80, and the battery is a smidge smaller at 4500mAh. There’s no wireless charging on the X80, but you still get 80w wired charging with it. Lastly, the vanilla X80 only comes with a Dimensity 9000 processor.

The X80 is priced at CNY 3700(~Php 29.6k) for the 8GB/128GB variant, CNY 4000(~Php 32k) for the 8GB/256GB variant, CNY 4400(~Php 35.2k) for the 12GB/256GB variant, and CNY 4900(~Php 39.1k) for the 12GB/512GB variant. Like the X80 Pro, the vanilla X80 is expected to be available outside of China, though vivo has yet to give a global release date.
