X is the New NEX: vivo Unveils Flagship X80 Pro in China

With the announcement of the X Note phablet and X Fold foldable last April 12, it became clear that vivo is formally dropping the NEX branding for its flagship line, unifying it instead under the X series. The X series gets a third variant for 2022 with the X80 Pro, which bears a similar design language to its bigger (and more expensive) siblings.

Similar with the OPPO Find X5 Pro, vivo’s X80 Pro comes in both Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Dimensity 9000 variants, though the difference is only with the processor.

vivo X80 Pro China Specs

  • Snapdragon 8 Gen 1/ Dimensity 9000 processor

The X80 Pro positions itself below the X Note, which is why you get a slightly smaller 6.78-inch curved AMOLED display with a Quad HD+ resolution, 120hz refresh rate, 1000hz touch response rate, in-display fingerprint scanner, and support for 10-bit color. The panel is an E5 variety and has LTPO 2.0 for more efficient switching of refresh rates. You also get an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner that’s bigger than the one used by the competition.

vivo is serious with photography, and its partnership with Zeiss continues with the X80 Pro and its use of the German optics manufacturer’s T* coating. The X80 Pro debuts an all-new 50-megapixel ISOCELL GNV main camera with OIS, along with a 48-megapixel IMX598 ultra-wide-angle camera, a 12-megapixel IMX663 portrait camera, and an 8-megapixel periscope camera with 5x optical zoom. Along with a 32-megapixel selfie camera, all of the image post-processing is done using vivo’s new V1+ imaging chip that gives the X80 Pro features like Cinematic mode.

Other features of the X80 Pro include an IP68 rating, stereo speakers with support for HiFi audio, a 4700mAh battery with support for 80w wired charging and 50w wireless charging, and Android 12-based OriginOS Ocean.

Regardless of what processor variant you get, the X80 Pro is priced at CNY 6000(~Php 48k) for the 12GB/256GB variant and CNY 6700(~Php 53.6k) for the 12GB/512GB variant. The X80 Pro is expected to be available outside of China, though there’s no word if the global version will get both Snapdragon and Dimensity iterations.
