Samsung reclaims the top spot from Apple in terms of global market share according to the Q1 2024 report of IDC. This is on top of an increase in smartphone shipments by 7.8% when compared to the previous year.
IDC Group Vice President Ryan Reith acknowledges that the smartphone market is slowly recovering after two years. Aside from that IDC also indicated that Samsung was able to bounce back in the first quarter of 2024, and we believe that this is mostly due to the positive reception for the Galaxy S24 series.

The generally positive reception of the Galaxy S24 series managed to minimize its negative Year-over-Year change to below 1%, giving it a good lead against Apple, where the hype for the iPhone 15 series has started to wane.
Looking through IDC’s data, it’s also had to ignore the growth of Xiaomi and Transsion (Infinix, itel, TECNO), who are placed 3rd and 4th respectively. Xiaomi’s growth of 33.8% can be credited to multiple key launches in the first quarter of 2024 which includes the POCO X6 series, Redmi Note 13 series, and the global launch of the Xiaomi 14.
Transsion group, on the other hand, got massive growth for the first quarter of 2024 thanks to multiple releases with insane early promo discounts, along with the launch of the POVA 6 Pro 5G at MWC 2024.
We expect Transsion group to grow its market share further in the second quarter of 2024 with several key releases like the itel RS4 and the Infinix NOTE 40 Pro+, which is set to launch in the Philippines soon.
