Otterbox has your iPhone 5 covered!
One of the biggest criticisms about the iPhone 5 so far from various tech blogs is that it scratches easily. Some people don’t mind the scratches because they think it gives character to the phone and they don’t want any cases because it will add bulk and weight. However I think the extra thickness and heft is a small price to pay especially if you have plans on selling the iPhone 5 later on to upgrade to a new handset. If it has a lot of scratches and defects you won’t be able to sell it for a good price but if it’s in mint condition you can probably let it go for 70% of SRP here in the Philippines. Now when it comes to protection for my gadgets the brand I usually turn to is Otterbox. The good news is that they will be offering the Otterbox Defender and Otterbox Commuter for the iPhone 5! We have review units of both series. Check out the photos and our impressions below.

Otterbox Commuter Series
Among all the series of Otterbox, my personal favorite is the Commuter. It’s the perfect balance between form and protection. It’s primarily composed of three pieces: the silicone skin, a hard polycarbonate frame, and a screen protector. It comes in different colors so make sure you pick one that matches your personality!
As proof to how good the Commuter Series is in protecting the iPhone 5, check out this video of us throwing the iPhone 5 with the case on to a solid wall.
Otterbox Defender Series
Next up we have the venerable Defender Series. This will definitely add bulk and weight but it will give massive amounts of protection. It’s composed of several parts: silicone skin, back polycarbonate cover, front polycarbonate cover with a built-in screen protector, and a belt clip that also adds even more protection. Take note though that this doesn’t make your phone waterproof. It’s probably water-resistant but I doubt it can survive getting dunked into a tub of water.
Pricing and Availability
I’ll confirm pricing and availability of both series ASAP and update this post. Will just check with the distributor. 🙂
