2022 Subaru WRX Will Debut on August 19

The current generation Subaru WRX has been around since 2015. Surely, Subaru took its time in developing the next-generation WRX, and after years of waiting, the 2022 Subaru WRX is almost here, just in time for its 30th birthday. The 2022 Subaru WRX will make its world debut at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) on August 19, 2021.

Although the Japanese automaker isn’t revealing everything just yet, they provided a teaser where we can get a glimpse of their newest rally-bred sports sedan. In the video, the new WRX can be seen kicking up a lot of dust in the desert. It is wearing a new orange color while emanating the good old boxer engine sound. It features taillights that are similar to the latest Subaru BRZ. There are chunky body claddings, black wheels, rear vents, a set of twin pipes, and a duckbill spoiler. The hood scoop and front grille are also bigger than before. Overall, the new WRX looks very similar to the 2022 Subaru Levorg.

The new model is expected to have the 2.4L turbocharged flat-four engine available in the Ascent, Outback, and Legacy. That FA24F engine is producing 260 hp and 376 Nm of torque, although Subaru might tune it to provide a higher and sportier output for the new WRX. For sure, the new WRX will have Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system as standard.

The new WRX will also feature the newest Subaru Global Platform. This architecture has been used for all new models from Subaru, including the fifth-generation Impreza, the seventh-gen Legacy, the fifth-gen Forester, the sixth-gen Outback, the second-gen Levorg, and the Ascent.
