For the uninitiated, Canalys is a well-known technology and smartphone research firm that looks into different kinds of data. They’ve also conveniently ranked the top smartphone brands in the Philippines every year, allowing us to see that realme was still the top smartphone in the PH last 2022. Here are the numbers and what that means for the future of the brand.

This actually isn’t the first time that realme stood as the top smartphone vendor in the PH. In 2021, the company enjoyed phenomenal success which was fueled by a 19% annual growth rate. That’s a lot, especially when you see that more than one-fifths of the devices sold within the year were realme devices.

Meanwhile the following year, it can be seen that realme’s Annual Growth did go into the red at -14%. It is undeniable, though, that they were still the top smartphone vendor in the PH as realme scored 21% – still more than one-fifths of the country’s smartphone market share!

Although we don’t have totals as of the moment, we also expect that overall numbers for the industry as a whole went down as well. After all, IDC declared a substantial dip in smartphone shipments for all brands across the line, not just in the region, but worldwide. No brand was spared, no matter how invincible they were perceived to be.

Nevertheless, it’s still impressive that realme snagged the top spot once again last year. It’s unsurprising given that the brand released a multitude of units that we discovered to be great products. They definitely have the entry-level to midrange market on lock with their value offerings and special collaborations. Did anyone forget about that Naruto phone?

Still, some questions remain our minds for realme and its future smartphone lineup in the PH. What segment will the brand be focusing on next? Can we expect more limited-edition collaborations with pop culture legends? And… what can we look forward to in the future? These are all questions that should be answered with time.
