BGC Ortigas Road Link to Open Partially this Independence Day

Good news for motorists! The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has confirmed the partial opening of the BGC-Ortigas Road Link this coming Independence Day, June 12.

The Sta. Monica-Lawton Bridge which is part of the BGC Ortigas Link Project will be finished soon and once complete, It will allow travel between Pasig City or Mandaluyong City and BGC in Taguig in just a short span of 12 minutes. 

The opening has been personally confirmed by DPWH Secretary Mark Villar last Friday. He has said, “As promised, Kalayaan Avenue, Makati City leading to Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City will be connected to Pasig City/Mandaluyong City by the Sta. Monica-Lawton Bridge on the historic day our nation commemorates the 123rd Independence Day.”

Currently, the DPWH is ensuring that the bridge is good to go on June 12 with final checks and finishing touches. The DPWH has stated, “At present, safety checking with final finishing touches on the four (4)-lane 440-meter bridge are being conducted by DPWH in order to ensure that its quality and finish conforms to the safety standards before opening to the motoring public.” DPWH Secretary Mark Villar has also revealed that he drove on the bridge last week to ensure that it is safe and ready for public use. 

Ongoing projects for the BGC-Ortigas Road Link are also underway, DPWH Undersecretary Emil Sadain has said. Among these are the rehabilitation and widening of 476.58-meter Brixton (corner Reliance Street) to Fairlane Street, rehabilitation and widening of 232.34-meter BGC 8th Avenue, construction of 125-meter upward and downward ramps at Kalayaan Avenue Intersection, and construction of the Lawton Avenue – Global City Viaduct.

The entire 1.367-kilometer BGC-Ortigas Road Link Project, which was revealed to have cost P1.79 billion is expected to be completed this September 2021. Once completed, the project is expected to reduce travel time between BGC and Ortigas Center from one hour to just 12 minutes. Moreover, it is part of the EDSA Decongestion Program and was designed and built to accommodate an estimated 20 percent of the traffic volume of EDSA and C-5.
