Converge ICT Wants To Be The Philippines’ Third Telco

It has submitted bid documents to the NTC

Converge ICT is looking to expand its digital footprint in the Philippines, jumping from wired, fiber-to-home provider to providing wireless services as the Philippines’ third telco.

The company has officially bought selection documents for the bidding that’s happening next week.

Converge ICT Solutions CEO Dennis Uy himself submitted documents to bid to National Telecommunications Commission Equipment Standards Division Head Jovita Chongco as seen in a photo published by the Philippine Star.

Converge ICT isn’t doing it alone, as the company has partnered with South Korean telecommunications giant KT Corp. as its partner.

KT is the largest telecommunications company in South Korea, and is on track to introduce 5G into wide-scale trial service in their home country this year.

With the entry of Converge ICT, there are around nine companies that are now vying to become the third telco here in the Philippines.

Converge ICT’s entry into the third telco race is surprising since officials from the company earlier said they were prioritizing their nationwide fiber expansion first before considering entering the telco business.
