Cyber Scammers Have Stolen Over 1B From Pinoys This Year

After warning the public against rampant online phishing, the Bankers Association of the Philippines (BAP) is now reminding the public to keep their account details safe and secure to avoid becoming victims of cyber scammers.

Cyber Scammers Have Stolen Over 1B From Pinoys This Year

According to the organization, over P1 billion was lost this year due to cyber scams. The most rampant of which is the fund transfer scam, which is a form of unauthorized bank withdrawal. With this huge amount of hard-earned money lost due to online scams, BAP is reminding the public not to reveal bank details to anyone.

Veloso further added that giving a single piece of information like your telephone number, e-mail address, or date of birth is enough for hackers to guess the password of your account using an algorithm.

The Bankers Association of the Philippines is working hand in hand with the Department of Justice to eliminate every kind of fraud in digital transactions. However, the public should also do its share even by simply securing their password and other information.
