Earlier today, Globe issued a scam warning against unscrupulous resellers who are selling DITO-branded modems that are actually Globe modems that have been unlocked illegally and have been rebranded with a DITO sticker. DITO is swift in responding to the said matter and issued a statement against the illegal modems (and overpriced SIM cards) proliferating the online marketplace.

In a statement sent to us, DITO Chief Administrative Officer Atty. Adel Tamano said that while they do understand the Filipino’s clamor for fast, affordable, and quality internet through DITO services, he advises everyone to “purchase DITO sim cards only from our partners, resellers, our DITO stores, and official online partner stores to avoid any issues.” 

This came in light of some resellers selling vanity DITO numbers at exorbitant prices–on top of the sale of alleged DITO-branded WiFi modems. “Let me take this opportunity to assure the public that the unauthorized use of the DITO branding in any form shall result in the possibility of prosecution for intellectual property infringement,” Tamano explains, elaborating that the third telco has yet to release an official modem or WiFi device that supports their SIM cards. As said in their statement, all DITO WiFi modems currently sold online are considered illegal and unauthorized.

“There are no official DITO modems or pocket WIFI devices that have been launched at this time. DITO cannot and will not guarantee the performance and service should our SIM cards be used in these unauthorized devices in the market today.” With that in mind, Tamano adds that their team is still working on finding more compatible devices and that it will add more models to its compatible phones list.
