Hyundai to Announce New Distributor in the Philippines in June 2022

Following reports of zero sales for the month of January 2022, new reports from Autoindustriya reveal that Hyundai Motor Company (HMC) will take over long-time partner Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI) as the official distributor in the Philippines by June 2022. In their report, Autoindustriya confirms that key representatives from HMC are already in the country and are busy laying the groundwork as the new distributor of Hyundai in the Philippines.

Industry insiders added that aside from the Staria–the successor of the Grand Starex that is being sold in the Philippines through grey market dealers–HMC will reportedly bring over three new crossover models as well. While they are not specific as to which crossovers will make it to our shores, the likely candidates include next-generation models of the Tucson, Creta, and Santa Fe. Various Hyundai dealerships are reportedly teasing the new models on their social media pages–though they are not yet accepting reservations as they are waiting for the go signal from HMC.

While we are familiar with the Tucson and Santa Fe, it will be the first time that Hyundai will be bringing over the Creta to the Philippines. It will make sense to bring the Creta to our shores, as Hyundai wants to compete in the growing subcompact crossover segment that is led by the likes of the Honda HR-V, Ford Ecosport, and Toyota Raize.

With this news of a new distributor in the works, it’s clear that Hyundai wants to make a comeback in the Philippines and bring back its former glory in market share.
