Ookla Hails Smart as Fastest 5G Network

With Smart doing extra work in expanding its 5G coverage in the Philippines, Ookla reveals in its Q12021 report that Smart posted the fastest 5G speeds in the country, garnering a median of 190mbps for download speeds. Smart’s speed score is double that of the competition and can be credited with their focus on nationwide 5G coverage expansion.

“We are working non-stop to expand the coverage of our 5G service and make it accessible to more customers, despite the challenges of the pandemic.  With 5G, we are making the Philippines’ fastest mobile network even faster – elevating the average mobile speeds into fiber-like levels – to serve our customers better, especially in these critical times,” Smart President and CEO Al Panlilio said.

As of this writing, Smart’s 5G network spans over 2300 sites. Its network coverage covers all cities and municipalities in Metro Manila, and in the provinces of Benguet, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Pampanga, Rizal, Cebu, Iloilo, Aklan, Misamis Oriental, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Davao.

“Just as we did with Smart LTE, which has been recognized by Ookla since 2018 as the country’s fastest 4G/LTE network, we are working non-stop to expand the coverage of our 5G service and make it accessible to more customers, despite the challenges of the pandemic,” Panlilio adds.

Aside from network expansion, Smart is also making 5G more accessible to everyone by offering the country’s first 5G Pocket WiFi with Rocket WiFi. With a price of Php 1,324 (Signature Plan S) per month for 36 months and a one-time cashout of Php 5,300, Smart’s Rocket WiFi is one of the very few non-smartphone devices that people can purchase to enjoy 5G speeds. On top of that, Smart is also offering a 5G upgrade for existing Smart Bro LTE Pocket WiFi or Smart Bro LTE-Advanced Pocket WiFi–all they need to do is to visit any Smart store or call Smart’s hotline at *888.
