Xiaomi Teases Its Upcoming 12S Series: Leica Camera Goodness

It hasn’t been that long since Xiaomi announced its partnership with legendary imaging company Leica. We knew that a smartphone was inevitably going to be born as a result of this collaboration soon, and now we have it. The Xiaomi 12S lineup has now been previewed, with the company releasing a teaser set for a full release on the 4th of July.

Based on the images released so far, it appears that 3 smartphones from the Xiaomi 12S line will be making their debut on that day. These are reported to be the vanilla Xiaomi 12S, then the Pro, with the trifecta led by the Ultra variant. The specifications have not been released yet for any of these, but we can almost certainly expect the industry-leading Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor to come in at least one of these devices. If so, then it might just be the very first device to bring the supercharged chipset to consumer’s hands.

Whispers from the community also indicate that the Pro may also have another variant carrying the all-new Dimensity 9000 Plus processor for other markets. Either way, both are towers of power that will perform splendidly if well-utilized with the proper software. Obviously, they’re also upgrades over their older siblings found in current-generation flagships.

Top-of-the-line hardware has been par for the course with devices like this, but it seems people will be focusing on how well the optics fare on this collaboration. With the way Xiaomi has marketed this product, it may very well just blow current flagships such as the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra or iPhone 13 Pro Max out of the water. It isn’t an instant surefire thing though, as we’ve seen with the rough start and warming-up period of the OnePlus-Hasselblad partnership.

We generally enjoyed our use of the predecessor Xiaomi 12 Pro. It had a breathtaking screen, solid build, amazing design, and so many things going for it – with our only gripes being the lack of an IP rating and thermal throttling. With the latter of these issues apparently repaired with these Plus processors, we’re excited to get our hands on the Xiaomi 12S series and push these to their very limits.

We’ll get back to you if we receive more information about these devices.
