Whether we like it or not, we’re in an age where social media applications are releasing premium features and locking them behind a paywall. Things we once used to take for granted now want a slice of our hard-earned money. Well, Twitter Blue is now in the Philippines to compete with the other available subscription services. What do you get, and how much is it?

Let’s start first with the functionality you’ll receive with a Twitter Blue subscription in the Philippines. Their page mentions that various locations may or may not have access to certain features, but here are a few of the highlights: You can undo Tweets by retracting it like an e-mail, or Edit a Tweet once it’s already up. You can also post up to 4,000 characters per Tweet as compared to the 280-character limit imposed on Free users. Video uploads can be much longer as well, and you can have NFT profile pictures.

More importantly, when you reply to Public Tweets, your responses will be prioritized and placed at the highest viewable spot by the algorithm. A little more controversial is the SMS two-factor authentication only being available to Twitter Blue users, which is deemed to be an essential security feature.

Twitter Blue in the Philippines will cost PHP 440/month, but those who get a yearly plan will be charged PHP 4,600 annually. That brings the monthly charge down to around PHP 383.33.

Whether it’s worth it or not will entirely depend on whether or not you use Twitter to that extent. Business accounts might also benefit from having this subscription.

The primary fear is such a small payment will be able to give scammers that coveted blue checkmark. This can cause havoc especially when it comes to the propagation of fake news and such. To combat trolls, Twitter will only allow accounts more than 90 days, or approximately 3 months old to avail of the service.
