Upcoming Snapdragon 898 Spotted in GeekBench

It is no secret at this point that Qualcomm is working on its next flagship processor. Rumored to be called the Snapdragon 898, the upcoming processor made its first appearance on GeekBench on an upcoming the vivo phone.

The phone in question is called vivo V2102A—which will most likely be an X-series or NEX series model—and the listing reveals a single-core score of 720 and a multi-core score of 1919. Those numbers are very underwhelming when compared to the current crop of Snapdragon 888-powered phones, but there’s a good chance that the Snapdragon 898 tested here is not yet fully optimized.

Diggin through the GeekBench listing, the Snapdragon 898 has a “taro” code name and an 8-core configuration, with the efficiency cores running at 1.79Ghz. Looking deeper into the code, the listing also confirms that the Snapdragon 898 will use an Adreno 730 GPU.

According to recent reports, the Snapdragon 898 will use a Cortex-X2 Prime core running at 2.42Ghz, three Cortex-A710 Power cores running at 2.17Ghz, and four Cortex-A510 efficiency cores running at 1.79Ghz. Don’t be deceived by the listing, as leaks do suggest that the Cortex-X2 can run as high as 3.09Ghz.

The Snapdragon 898 will reportedly be the first processor to use an ARM v9 architecture—which promises up to 30% better power efficiency, with the X2 delivering up to 16% better performance than the X1. It is said to use Samsung’s 4nm process and will pack features like an all-new X65 5G modem that is capable of 10Gbps download speeds and upgraded ISP and NPU chips.
