vivo Y76 5G box sleeve

Before 2021 comes to a close, vivo has decided to launch another mid-range smartphone — the Y76 5G. The newest member of their Y-series to hit our shores is being marketed as a vlogging phone but they also have a tie-in with the popular mobile game, Mobile Legends. What does this device have to offer exactly?

Packaging and Contents

As mentioned, vivo does have a tie in with Mobile Legends and that’s very evident with the sleeve that goes over the box, which features Gusion and Guinevere. When you slide that off, you’re left with the standard, clean white cardboard box.\

Inside it, you have the insert that holds the documents and a silicone case. Below that is the phone and the review unit that was sent to us is in the Cosmic Aurora colorway. Aside from that, you have the USB-C cable, charging brick, and a pair of wired earphones.

Design

vivo has made some of the most gorgeous smartphones we’ve seen this year and the Y76 5G is worthy of a chef’s kiss in our book; especially in this colorway that will definitely catch anyone’s eye. Now, that doesn’t mean that the Midnight Space version isn’t a stunner as well but there’s something here for everyone.

vivo Y76 5G back panel

There are no surprises with the material they used for the Y76 5G. It has a plastic back cover and frame but we like that they’ve gone with a matte finish; although it does still catch some fingerprints and smudges so we still recommend using the case that comes with the phone. The build makes it really light and it’s pretty slim as well, which is great if that’s what you want in a daily driver but it doesn’t have it’s up and downs.

While taking photos for this vivo Y76 5G unboxing, we also did an accidental drop test for this device — Sorry, vivo Philippines. It slipped out of our hands. It took a nasty tumble onto our tiled floor after a bad bounce on our table and it survived. We don’t even see any visual scuffs as well so vivo did a really good job with this phone or we go incredibly lucky.

For a tour of the phone’s button and ports, you have access to the SIM tray on top, which has hybrid slots.

On the bottom, you have the headphone jack, USB-C port, and speaker.

And on the right side, you have the volume rocker plus the power button that has an integrated fingerprint scanner. It unlocks the phone quickly and has a small margin of error to pass our initial tests.

vivo Y76 5G screen

Display

For its screen, the vivo Y76 5G has a 6.58-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD Display. Unfortunately, the refresh rate is locked at 60Hz so if having higher refresh rates is a must for you this is definitely a minus for this device. Thankfully though, the overall image quality is good and we have enjoyed watching content on the Y76 so far.

The lone speaker on the bottom of the phone sounds decent too. It doesn’t generate a ton of volume — just enough to share a quick video with friends — so make sure you take advantage of that headphone jack.

vivo Y76 5G camera module

Cameras

For its shooters, the vivo Y76 5G has a 16-megapixel front camera. You have three cameras on the back with a 50-megapixel main accompanied by a 2-megapixel depth and 2-megapixel macro. At this price point, we would have loved to see an ultra-wide shooter instead of the usual stat stuffers. We have to take a couple of sample photos so check them out down below.

On the video side of things, both front and rear cameras can shoot up to 1080 30p but only the one in the back has EIS, which is also a bit of a disappointment for something that’s marketed as a phone for vlogging. We still have to test it out to see what it can do and we are willing to be pleasantly surprised by the output.

Internals

The vivo Y76 5G is equipped with a Mediatek Dimensity 700 processor paired with 8GB of RAM — that you can extend by 4GB more in the settings — and 128GB of expandable storage.

We’ve experienced the Dimensity 700 before and is a very capable processor and a good entry into the 5G network for those looking to break in. We have tried a bit of Mobile Legends on this device and it does run smoothly but we will have to put it through the wringer to see if the experience on this phone will be any different.

vivo Y76 5G Mobile Legends Test

Giving this device life is a 4100mAh battery, which is definitely below the norm these days. You have to remember though that the refresh rate is locked at 60Hz so this could still give you the juice you need; even if traffic has once again returned to EDSA. The good news here is that it supports 44W charging so if you should need a top-up, you’ll only need to be tethered to a wall socket for a little while.

For the software, the vivo Y76 5G runs on FunTouch 12 on top of Android 11. There are some pre-installed apps on the phone but most of them are pretty useful and you can easily uninstall the ones you won’t need.

Wrap and Early Conclusions

In this vivo Y76 5G unboxing, we see that this newest mid-range offering has its fair share of pros and cons. Just like its siblings in the X and V series, we think that it’s one of the prettiest phones that you can get at this price point but that’s very subjective and some of you might be looking for particular things like higher refresh rates or a stronger processor. Nonetheless, we’re going to put the Y76 5G through the wringer to see what this phone can actually do.

Vivo Y76 5G Pricing and Availability

The vivo Y76 5G has been given a Php 16,999 price tag and is only currently available online via Shopee or Lazada. If you want to check out the phone in one of their brick-and-mortar stores before buying it, you’ll have to wait a little bit longer as the availability for those channels will be on December 11.
