Vodafone Is The Latest Telco Interested In The PH

It’s the latest company to take interest in becoming our third player

There’s yet another multi-national telecom giant that’s interested in setting up shop in the Philippines. According to government news site PTV 4, Vodafone, the UK-based telco giant appears interested in coming into the Philippines.

“We just discussed the possibilities and told them that we’re introducing third telco player and that we’re welcoming proposals,” Budget and Management Secretary Benjamin Diokno said during Breakfast with the Ben press briefing. PH representatives met with Vodafone executives in their HQ last week during the official visit of the Philippine Economic team.

According to Diokno, the telco has officially no thrown its hat in the ring to become the PH’s third telco player but appears interested in the country. Vodafone is reportedly conducting its due diligence first.

“They asked many questions because it is the biggest telco company in the world. They want to make sure that we’ll protect their reputation,” he said.

“They’re making their due diligence and they’ll probably find out if it’s worth their while to participate. That’s the usual stance of businessmen,” he added, noting that it’s possible for the company to still enter the marketplace despite a third telco being chosen by the Philippine government.
