Why Apple Should Adapt USB-C on the iPhone

Lightning and USB-C cables are the two most popular charging cables on the market. Both cables have the same function—connection, communication, and charging. However, there’s still a good reason why iPhone should adapt the USB-C cable.

Why iPhone Should Adapt The USB-C

First of all, the main difference between the two cable types is that Lightning is a proprietary connector used on iPhones and other Apple devices.

For the main reason, USB-C is considered by many to be the current standard for charging and transferring data. USB-C is capable of supporting USB4, the latest and fastest USB specification. Because of this, USB-C cables can transfer speeds up to 40Gbps. In comparison, Lightning cables are only capable of transferring data at USB 2.0 rates of 480Mbps.

Therefore, USB-C is far superior in terms of performance. In addition, it is more widely used, catering to most modern android devices.

Fortunately, Apple is reported to have been testing new adapters with its iPhones. And it’s probably the Type-C, something that’s already present in its MacBooks and iPads.

According to Bloomberg, the adapter being tested may “let future iPhones work with accessories designed for the current Lightning connector.”

Bloomberg also reported that if Apple “proceeds with the change, it wouldn’t occur until 2023 at the earliest”.
