Lenovo is Making On-Device AI a Reality to its Laptops

In an age where practically every device out there makes use of AI in one way or another, one of the challenges with AI in general is that it depends a lot on the internet. Not everyone is comfortable with using the internet for AI tasks, which is why there’s a push for local, on-device AI. Lenovo is one of the brands that’s pushing for on-device AI with two features: AI Now and Creator Zone.

While we’re familiar with Creator Zone as it was showcased at Lenovo’s Innovate ’24 event in Bangkok, AI Now got us intrigued because it takes on-device AI to another level. In the demonstration showcased to us here at Yokohama, what makes AI Now unique is that it builds a personalized AI model for you based on the features of your Lenovo laptop and the local files you have.

For example, if you have a document that’s several pages long and want a summary of it, you can ask Lenovo AI Now to summarize it for you, and it will give you the key points of said document in seconds–all without depending on the internet. You can do the same as well for changing settings on your laptop, or even ask for support in case you need to have your laptop serviced. Although we were shown a beta version of AI Now, we praise Lenovo for rethinking how we can utilize AI for our day-to-day lives without worrying about security and privacy concerns.

The same can be said for Creator Zone, where Lenovo showcased a preview version that’s close to the actual release. Comparing it to our experience with Creator Zone at its beta version last year, the preview version feels more refined and generates images faster and more accurately based on our text prompts. One improvement we noticed is that you can also include image prompts by uploading a photo to Creator Zone so that it can give you a more refined result.

With AI Now and (a refined version of) Creator Zone, Lenovo is doing an excellent job in making on-device a reality for laptops–especially with the rise of AI PCs.
