A New Motorola Razr Foldable Might Come Out In 2022

The Motorola Razr foldable smartphone came out in 2019 as one of the first of its class. However, as with many first-generation devices, it had a lot of downsides that just didn’t make it a livable phone for the day-to-day. The 5G version then followed suit, this time packing notable improvements, but still fell short in terms of display resolution, battery size, and processor power (which you’ll see described very well in our review!) The foldable market actually has a future now though with the relatively widespread adoption of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3, which likely prompted Motorola to give the Razr another try in 2022.

According to a report by Android Authority, Lenovo exec Chen Jin was spotted on Weibo teasing the next-generation Motorola Razr. With their third attempt, they are specifically targeting the weak points of their first iterations: improved chip computing power, better man-machine interface, and what can be assumed to be a bolder yet more ergonomic design.

What kind of specifications would be acceptable for the Motorola Razr in 2022? If sold for a flagship price, then the bare minimum given its novelty as a foldable is the current spec sheet of the Z Flip 3. That includes a bump to at least FHD+ resolution, a Snapdragon 888 or the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, 6-8GB of RAM, and battery capacity of at least 3000 mAh. If Motorola can pull this off and assure prospective buyers of software support for the upcoming years while keeping the price to within reasonable levels, then they have an actual competitor on their hands.
