How to Get a Driver’s License With 10-Year Validity

We already told you about the Comprehensive Drivers Education (CDE) requirement and the new 10-year validity of driver’s licenses. Now, we’re here to guide you on how to get a drivers license with 10-year validity, assuming yours is due for renewal.

How to Get a Driver’s License With 10-Year Validity

Before you proceed, it is important to note that only LTO offices in the National Capital Region are rolling out licenses with 10-year validity. Moreover, this license with extended validity is only for those who don’t have any traffic violation record. Lastly, your license must be due for renewal (at least 60 days before expiration).

How to get a drivers license with 10-year validity:

  • Get a medical certificate
  • Register and take the CDE exam on the LTMS Portal
  • Bring the result to window 1 of any LTO Office within NCR
  • Pay the renewal fee at window 7
  • Proceed to windows 2 and 3 for biometrics

Get a medical certificate

A medical certificate is an indispensable requirement. The good thing is that there are many medical clinics outside every LTO office where you can get one. It costs Php 500 and they will just take note of your vision, height, and weight.

Register and take the CDE exam on LTMS Portal

Create an account on the LTMS Portal. This is where you will input your details, get the materials for the Comprehensive Drivers Education (CDE) exam, and take the exam itself. The CDE exam is a 25 item questionnaire about traffic rules in the Philippines. Again, materials are available on the LTMS Portal for your review.

Bring the result to window 1 of any LTO Office within NCR

After passing the exam, a certificate will be sent to you via your provided e-mail address. This certificate proves that you have passed the said exam. You will submit this certificate to window 1 of your preferred LTO office, together with your medical certificate and old driver’s license.

Pay the renewal fee at window 7

After submitting all the requirements in window 1, you will be called to proceed in window 7. This is where you will pay the renewal fee of Php 585. They will also confirm whether you are eligible for the 10-year validity or not.

Proceed to windows 2 and 3 for biometrics

After window 7, you may now proceed to window 2 and then 3. This is where they will get your biometric data. They will also let you check all the information you provided if it’s all correct. If so, they will give you your new driver’s license with 10-year validity on the spot.
