OnePlus has promised an extra year for major OS updates, starting with the upcoming OnePlus 11. OnePlus now offers 4 years of major OS updates, in addition to 5 years of security updates.
Current OnePlus number-series devices dating back to the OnePlus 8 get three OS version updates and four years of security patches. Older number series phones like the OnePlus 7 and more recent Nord series devices get two OS updates and three years of security updates while OnePlus N-series phones get a single OS update and three years of security patches.
OnePlus will join Samsung in offering 4 years of major OS updates starting with the upcoming OnePlus 11. According to OnePlus and Oppo Operating System Product head Gary Chen, security updates will be issued in a bi-monthly manner.
OnePlus pivoted its OS strategy one month before the OnePlus 10 came out, claiming it would back away from the unified Oppo skin.
