In the race towards bringing 5G technology to the Philippines, Smart and Huawei have reached a new high at Smart’s 5G Technolab. For the second test, 5G speeds reached 14Gbps, which is higher compared to the 6.5Gbps speed achieved during the launch of the 5G Technolab.
“The coming of 5G opens up many opportunities to offer a wider selection of relevant services and solutions to our customers,” said PLDT and Smart Executive Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer Eric Alberto said in a press release.
Having 5G connectivity will bring a number of possibilities for Filipinos which include Smart Cities and Internet of Things (IoT). Both were showcased at PLDT’s Digital Convention held last June 21.
Smart expects to launch their first 5G-equipped smartphone by 2019.
