I think it’s fair to say that, between the team and me, we’ve seen a lot of laptops come our way. While it was the gaming laptops that initially elicited collective excitement, the focus has shifted to the thinner, lighter productivity laptops. It’s most likely that we’ve become certified Titos and Titas who want to protect our backs, but it’s also because of a shift in our responsibilities as the Unbox Group continues to grow.
Enter the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 Aura Edition.
I’ve been privileged to try out this productivity-focused laptop from Lenovo. Lea has used one as a daily driver in the past, but this newer model has seen some significant upgrades to get work done on-the-go.
Here are a few reasons why we think this should be the next thing you should unbox.
Great Internals Get the Job Done
The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Aura Edition is powered by an Intel Core Ultra 7 258V processor that’s paired with 32GB of LPDDR5X RAM and a 1TB PCIe Gen 4 M.2 SSD. Suffice to say, it had more than enough power to handle all the tasks we threw at this laptop. While mainly used for comms between our business units, creating presentation decks, and presenting decks to clients, this had more than enough power under the hood for editing short-form videos as well. There are better laptops in Lenovo’s lineup if your main task is video editing, of course, but squeezing out a quick video on CapCut was a non-issue for the Yoga Slim 7i.
Of course, all of that power and capabilities would be rendered useless if it didn’t have juice. Luckily, the Yoga Slim 7i does have a ton of lasting power with its 70Whr battery. I was able to use this — albeit sporadically — for an entire day without having to plug in. Realistically, you will have to plug in if you really need to hunker down, but I didn’t have to worry if I was going to be out for presentations or just needed a break from the monotony at home to do some quick work at a nearby cafe. It also has a rapid charge feature that Lenovo says gets you 3-hours of battery life with just 15 minutes of charging, but that’s a best-case scenario, but it is enough for that quick cafe run I mentioned.
S-Tier Display and Speakers
I know that most of us still prefer working from home these days, but, sometimes, it’s still better to have face time with clients to help grease the wheels and close that deal.
One of the issues we often face in some of the laptops we’ve tried in the past is having to present big idea pitches to clients on a screen that gives an awesome presentation a debuff. That won’t be happening on this laptop. It has a 15.3” 2.8K display that I was surprised to find out wasn’t using an OLED panel.
Yes, you are getting an IPS Display on the Yoga Slim 7i, but it looks fantastic. It’s got great color reproduction that makes anything from your visuals to watching MVs in your downtime a lot more enjoyable. You’re also getting a touchscreen display on this device, so browsing through your proposal should be more intuitive just in case clients want to double back or maybe even focus on certain parts of text that they need to read clearly.
The speakers on this are also able to fill a room with ease, which has been great for us since we do present a lot of videos during our pitches and, sometimes, having bad audio also kills any momentum you might have.
The Sleek Form Factor
Lenovo hasn’t deviated very far from the designs of their laptops; giving their own signature look to their device. It looks really clean and really sleek; plus, despite the 15.3-inch display, its dimensions are closer to a 14-inch laptop. It also only weighs 1.53kgs; making it easy to take around. Bonus, the aluminum build on the laptop feels amazing and does add a lot of comfort that it can withstand your everyday wear and tear.
What’s Unique About the Aura Edition?
One question you might have (and I had as well) is: What’s different about the Aura Edition compared to other Lenovo laptops? If you guessed: “It has AI features!” You would be correct.
Lenovo, like other companies, has baked in more AI features on the device as well, but the processor that’s onboard this laptop was built to distribute the load between the CPU, iGPU, and NPU more efficiently, thus maximizing the power you get out of it and why the power management on Yoga Slim 7i is really good at extending that battery life. The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i also has various Aura Smart Modes that allow you to focus on the task at hand or when you simply want to sit back and binge a few shows after a long day.
How Much is the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Aura Edition?
There are multiple configurations for this laptop, but the unit that was lent out to us for review is at Php 103,995. NGL, that’s a huge investment to make in a laptop. Investment is the keyword here though. If Lea’s time with her previous unit is any indication, she was able to use that from 2020 and has just recently replaced her daily driver this year.
During that time, we were also able to test out Lenovo’s Premium Care service when the ribbon to the display needed a replacement. Before you say anything, we didn’t use any of our connections and called their hotline, and the issue with her laptop was resolved within days.
Only you can assess if this is the right laptop for your needs and your budget, but if this is within your range and the tasks you have closely resemble the scenarios I mentioned above, this could be a great option for you to check out.
