14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro, Mac Mini Get Updated with M2 Pro

Apple gives a refresh to the 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro and Mac Mini with its new M2 Pro chips.

After being reportedly delayed by a few months, Apple finally updates the 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro and Mac Mini with the M2 Pro and M2 Max processors. While the 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro and Mac Mini still look the same, all of the main upgrades lie in the processor.

The M2 Pro is based on a 5nm node and has 20% more transistors than the M1 Pro at 40 billion. With this, the M2 Pro supports up to 200GB/s bandwidth and up to 32GB RAM. It can be configured with 10 or 12 CPU cores, along with up to 19 GPU cores, which Apple promises 20% better CPU performance and 30% better GPU performance.

On the other hand, the M2 Max comes with 67 billion transistors and can support up to 96GB RAM. It’s also twice as fast as the M2 Pro, as the M1 Max supports up to 400GB/s bandwidth. While the CPU has a 12-core design, the GPU can be configured with up to 38 cores.

With the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, both the 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro get a bump in battery life and now support WiFi 6E and HDMI 2.1. The latter allows both MacBook Pros to support 8K 60hz or 4K 240hz displays.

The same applies to the Mac Mini, with Apple formally discontinuing the Intel variants. This leaves the Mac Pro as the only Intel-powered Mac–but that is set to change eventually. The Mac Mini can be availed with either an M2 or M2 Pro processor, with the latter having four Thunderbolt 4 ports and an HDMI 2.1 port (the M2 version only has two Thunderbolt 4 ports).

The 14-inch MacBook Pro starts at Php 126,990 for the 10-core M2 Pro model, while the 16-inch version starts at Php 156,990 for the 12-core M2 Pro model. The Mac Mini, on the other hand, starts at Php 36,990 for the M2 version and Php 79,990 for the M2 Pro version.
