Internals: Modern SoC can compensate for less RAM

No questions asked: Even if the F5 Youth has less RAM compared to the ZenFone Max Plus, its main redeeming factor is its use of an Helio P23 chip, which is touted as one of the more decent SoCs MediaTek has designed so far (we even made a deep dive about it, in fact).

Display Full HD is better when bigger

While both offer Full HD+ displays, the F5 Youth offers more screen estate at 6 inches, compared to the ZenFone Max Plus’ 5.7-inch screen.

Camera: A debatable matter

While the ZenFone Max Plus may boast of a dual rear camera setup, the F5 Youth boasts of its Beauty AI algorithm, which supposes to give the best selfies possible. While we have reviewed the F5 Youth’s camera performance already, we will have to fully test the ZenFone Max Plus’ cameras to see if the image quality is as good or better than that of the F5 Youth.

Battery: Bigger battery on the ZenFone Max Plus but…

Considering that the ZenFone Max Plus’ 6750T processor is old compared to the F5 Youth’s Helio P23 processor, the latter makes up for its smaller battery for a more power-efficient processor. While we do not have the PCMark results for the F5 Youth, it has lasted with us throughout the day with some juice left, making it fairly efficient considering that it uses a smaller battery.

A slight advantage for the ZenFone though is that it comes with fast charing—something that the F5 Youth surprisingly lacks.

Verdict: OPPO’s offering is a strong contender

While the F5 Youth is a strong contender against the ZenFone Max Plus, it’s pricing is still debatable considering that you can get phones with similar specs for a lower price. As for the ZenFone Max Plus M1, we still wonder why they opted for a MT6750T chipset, but given its price, it’s really hard to ask for more.
