In the Unleashed event, Apple announced the 3rd generation of its popular AirPods. The latest version marks the first time Apple’s popular wireless earbuds get a redesign with a more contoured design. Apple describes the new design as  “sitting at just the right angle for comfort and to direct audio into the ear.” Compared to the previous, generation, the 3rd generation AirPods have a shorter stem and feature the same force sensor controls found on the AirPods Pro. Both the earbuds and the case get an IPx4 rating, making them resistant to both sweat and water.
Aside from a revamped design, the 3rd generation AirPods inherits features from the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max like Adaptive EQ and spatial audio with dynamic head tracking, and feature AAC-ELD for full HD voice quality.
Along with the new design, the 3rd generation AirPods feature a skin-detect sensor that accurately discerns if AirPods are in the ear, where it pauses playback when removed. Beamforming microphones help block out ambient noise and focus on the user’s voice.
The third-generation AirPods are rated for up to 6 hours on a single charge and up to 30 hours with the case. Aside from charging via Lightning and wireless charging, the third-generation AirPods now support MagSafe charging–making them the latest addition to Apple’s growing MagSafe ecosystem.
