Sony is leading the way with an upcoming image sensor
While 4K video is all the rage with most products these days, 8K video has limited application for now: aside from a few professional cameras, 8K video has yet reached mainstream status.
That might change in the coming months, as Sony is reportedly working on an 8K video capable full-frame sensor based on these documents. Carrying the model name IMX435AQJ, the said sensor is a 35mm full frame variety that can output approximately 38.54-megapixels in 14-bit color.
Reading through the documents, the upcoming sensor comes with a high-speed PDAF sensor, along with the ability to do 12-bit digital output for high-speed moving pictures. According to rumors, this sensor might make it to the upcoming A7SIII, making it one of the most affordable professional mirrorless cameras to support 8K video.
