Aside from finally joining the gaming handheld space with the Nitro Blaze 7, ACER also unveiled as wild gaming laptop at IFA 2024 with the Project DualPlay. While it may look like your usual gaming laptop, hidden underneath the trackpad area is a full-sized gamepad that can split into two joysticks a la Nintendo Switch.
Considering the thickness of the laptop, it’s amazing how ACER managed to fit in a full-sized controller within its chassis, addressing the problem of not having any controllers when travelling with a gaming laptop. Aside from that unique party trick, the two speakers pop out at each side to provide an immersive audio experience–with ACER adding that they pop out the moment you detach the controller. Since both joycons are detachable, the Project DualPlay will also allow for multiplayer gaming, with ACER mentioning the nest Street Fighter title as one of the games that will support it.
While ACER did not reveal any specs for the Project DualPlay, it is a bonafide gaming laptop with its plethora of RGB lighting, along with the Predator branding on both the laptop and the detachable controller.
Being a concept laptop, it remains to be seen when ACER plans to launch a production-ready version in the near future. Nevertheless, this is one of the most novel concepts we’ve seen for gaming laptops in a while.
