Doubling Down on FullView Displays

If you’ve seen the ads up on the website and elsewhere, vivo has already been teasing their FullView display equipped V7 Plus. While we’re waiting for its launch in the country, it looks like the company’s flagship is getting the same treatment. The X20 has just been outed on TENAA recently, along with another variant of the model, the X20A, which is bigger 5.5-inch display compared the X20’s 5.2-inch screen.

As mentioned earlier, the X20 and X20A will be equipped with a FullView display, minimizing the bezels on the phone and giving it an aspect ratio of 18:9. This means that we’re probably going to see more devices from vivo, and most likely the other brands under BKK Electronics, move away from their usual Apple-esque aesthetics to follow the current edge-to-edge display trend; at least up front.

The back of the device sports the familiar looks of the OPPO R11 and the OnePlus 5, which isn’t really that much of a surprise. Given that they’ve had to minimize the bezels up in front to make room for the display, the fingerprint scanner has been moved to the back of the phone.

Aside from the display sizes, we haven’t found what internals the X20 and X20A are rocking, but the V7+ is said to either be rocking a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 or 660, so could we be seeing a Snapdragon 835 on these phones? More importantly. are the X20 and X20A even going to make it on to our shores?

For now, we look forward to the local launch of vivo’s next iteration of the selfie-centric smartphone — the vivo V7+ — which should happen this month.

*** Update: The Vivo V7+ was launched in India and has been equipped with a Snapdragon 450, which means the X20 and X20A will come with either a Snapdragon 630 and a Snapdragon 660.
