It’s not just a passing fad
18:9 displays aren’t just a passing fad, at least for Huawei. It’s announced that all of its phones for its Honor sub-brand will come with an 18:9 FullView display moving forward, doing away with the regular 16:9 phones.
Honor GER says “there will be no new Honor phones that do not have a FullView display” (18:9 ratio) from this point on.

Honor is Huawei’s online-only sub-brand that was created to combat brands like Xiaomi and Lenovo’s now defunct ZUK mobile a few years ago. While the Honor brand has exited the Philippines officially because of concerns of cannibalizing sales of Huawei’s main smartphone line, some of its smartphones pop up in the company’s catalog with a new name and Huawei branding.
It’s not clear if Huawei is also looking to make the same commitment for their main smartphone lineup, as the company also sells a lot of budget devices that utilize the 16:9 aspect ratio for their phones.
