All We Know About The Ridiculous 5 Rear-camera Nokia 9 PureView

It’s going to be lit

The hype train for the latest smartphone in the Nokia brand is gaining steam, as more and more information leaks out about HMD Global’s upcoming Nokia 9 PureView smartphone. There’s quite a bit of stuff to cover, so let’s get right into it:

(Keep in mind that all of the information here is simply culled from leaks and rumors – take the stuff here with a huge pile of salt)

It’ll have seven, not just five, cameras

While most of the renders and leaked photos of the device concentrate on the insane 5-camera layout on the rear, the total camera count for the Nokia 9 is 7. Leaked renders of the front of the phone show two camera modules on the front, which means it’ll hold the title as the phone with the most cameras inside of its body.

As for the rear cameras themselves, all we know right now is that they’re capable of shooting images simultaneously, allowing the phone to capture 10x more light compared to regular smartphones.

If the name of the device is legit, then you can be sure that the phone is built for photography, as the “PureView” moniker (that HMD Global bought from Microsoft) was only used for devices with photography in mind. All the rear cameras have Zeiss branding on them.

It’ll come with last year’s processor

Despite all the hype about the Nokia 9 Pureview’s camera prowess, all leaks point to the phone using last year’s flagship processor. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset will beat under the hood of the Nokia 9 Pureview, combined with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

Again, it makes sense – the Nokia 9 PureView is meant for photography, and not for bleeding edge performance.

It’ll come with stock Android

HMD Global has made a point of including stock Android in Nokia-branded phones, and it’s not about to veer away from that practice. The Nokia 9 Pureview will come with Android 9 Pie via Android One, which means it’s guaranteed to get at least two year’s worth of OS updates and three year’s worth of security patches.

The display won’t have a notch and will feature an in-display fingerprint scanner

Notch-haters will be happy to know that the Nokia 9 Pureview won’t come with a notch in front, as HMD Global has opted to go with a 5.99-inch, PureDisplay screen with a 2K resolution panel.

Since the body doesn’t have a fingerprint scanner, it’s safe to say that the phone will have an in-display fingerprint reader instead, which is fast becoming the norm for flagship phones.

It’s poised to be announced at the end of January

HMD Global hasn’t officially said when their new flagship will be officially be unveiled, but rumors peg it to be announced at the end of January. If that’s true, HMD Global picked a weird time for the Nokia 9 Pureview, as its announcement date will be right after CES and before Mobile World Congress, which takes place at the end of February.
