All You Need To Know About Huawei’s Nova 3i

The next big hit for Huawei?

Huawei’s next mid-range star is shaping to be a killer offering. More than a successor to last year’s Nova 2i, the Nova 3i will pack some new features that will make it stand out from the saturated mid-range segment:

It looks similar to the P20 Lite

Based on a teaser posted today, the Nova 3i looks similar to the P20 Lite from the back. As for the front, the Nova 3i has a bigger notch compared to the P20 Lite. Speaking of size, the Nova 3i is significantly bigger as it comes with a 6.3-inch Full HD+ display.

It will have four cameras

Being a successor to last year’s Nova 2i, the Nova 3i will come with four cameras as expected. For the rear, it will have the same setup with the P20 Lite that consists of 16-megapixel and 2-megapixel cameras. For the front, the Nova 3i gets a major upgrade with an AI-powered 24-megapixel camera and a 2-megapixel camera.

It will have a massive internal storage

You should not worry about storage issues, as the Nova 3i will have a 128GB internal storage, which is twice as big as the 64GB internal storage on last year’s Nova 2i. If that’s not enough, you can easily expand that with a MicroSD card.

It will have a new processor

Huawei’s Kirin 659 is aging by 2018 standards, and it is just right for the Nova 3i to come with a new Kirin 710 processor. The new processor is made using a 12nm process, which makes it more energy efficient and more powerful than last year’s Kirin 659. An added feature on the Kirin 710 is that it inherits the AI capabilities of the higher end Kirin 970.

It will have this new feature

Aside from the upgraded internals, the Nova 3i will be introducing a new feature called 3D Qmoji. It is Huawei’s take on animated emojis, and what is basically does is that it makes use of fun animal faces and let them move on their own based on the facial expression captured by the Nova 3i’s front cameras. Only a few mid-range phones have this feature as of this writing.

Pre-orders start next week

We confirmed with retailers that pre-orders for the Nova 3i will start on July 19. We have conflicting reports on the official pricing: Some say that it is priced at Php 15,990, while others say that it has a Php 17,990 SRP. Given the recent price cuts on the Nova 2i and P20 Lite, we expect the Nova 3i to be priced within the Php 15k-18k range.
