It’s that time of the year, and Apple unveils the latest iPhones starting with the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus. The new iPhones follow the iPhone 15 Pro‘s trend of ditching the mute switch for an action button that’s customizable for different buttons. Aside from that, the iPhone 16 now has a new capture button, which is a capacitive button that allows for swiping gestures.
We’ve already seen the switch to a Dynamic Island and USB-C since the iPhone 15 series, and while the display still uses a paltry 60hz refresh rate, Apple did revamped the camera layout on the iPhone 16 series that have a vertical orientation reminiscent of the iPhone X and XS. Display sizes are still 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch for the standard and Plus models respectively, but Apple managed to trim down the bezels further to make them slightly more compact than the iPhone 15 series.
Apple Intelligence is the next big thing to iOS devices, and the iPhone 16 series support it with their use of an A18 processor–a 3nm chip that has 16-core Neural engine and a 6-core CPU, with Apple claiming as much as 30% better performance over the A16 Bionic. Unfortunately, the starting storage size is still at 128GB, and we really think Apple should start with 256GB as base storage given how big apps and file sizes are in the past few years. Also unfortunate is Apple Intelligence, as it will be available at a later date–and in beta version.
As for the dual rear camera setup, both iPhone 16 models have the same 48-megapixel shooter used by their predecessors, but the ultra-wide camera gets a brighter f/2.2 aperture and autofocus so that they double as a macro shooter.
The iPhone 16 starts at Php 54,990, with the Plus model starting at Php 62,990. Both start off with 128GB of storage.
