If Apple’s debut M1 processor did not convince you at how they blew the competition, the Cupertino-based tech giant has more in store according to Bloomberg.
While the current design of the M1 is an 8-core CPU and up to 8-core GPU, Apple is exploring the possibilities of a new design that will have 20 CPU cores (16 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores) to be used on higher-end versions of the MacBook Pro. However, this design might become official on the second half of 2021–for the first half of 2021, Apple will possibly debut a version with 12 CPU cores.
As for 2022, Apple plans to introduce an ultra high-performance version with as many as 32 performance CPU cores–this processor is expected to debut on the Mac Pro. On the GPU side, Apple is working on 16-core and 32-core GPUs and is exploring the possibility of up to 128 GPU cores that can outperform NVIDIA or AMD GPUs.
