Apple Unveils HomePod Smart Speaker

Finally joining in with the smart speaker trend

After months of reports and rumors, Apple has unveiled its HomePod smart speaker. A 7-inch black cylinder, the HomePod has seven tweeters and a subwoofer for a powerful sound. The seven tweeters are nestled in the circle, while the subwoofer is found right at the center. All speakers are spatially-aware–this means that the HomePod can fine tune all eight speakers for the most optimal sound, regardless of what room you plan to put it.

Powering the HomePod is an A8 Chip, and it comes with six microphones that will help it listen to what you tell it via Siri. Speaking of Siri, the HomePod has multi-room support, which means you can tell Siri what music to play in each individual HomePod speaker. In addition, Siri works as a Home assistant with HomeKit, where you can sync it together with your other smart appliances at home.

In order to use it, you will need an iOS device that runs iOS 11.2.5 or later.

The HomePod is available in black and space gray, and will be priced at $349 (~Php 17.9k) and will be available for pre-order in the US, UK, and Australia starting January 26, and will ship on February 9.
