ASUS Unveils ROG Phone 7 Series with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

ASUS levels up its gaming phone lineup with the ROG Phone 7 series. This time, ASUS simplified the lineup with a regular ROG Phone 7 and an Ultimate version–the latter having an ROG Vision back display and AeroActive Portal.

While it retained the same size as the ROG Phone 6 series, ASUS made a few tweaks on the back panel with revised graphics. The vanilla ROG Phone 7 gets a glossy translucent finish on the upper part of its matte glass back panel, along with RGB lighting on the ROG logo. The Ultimate version, on the other hand, has the same design elements as the ROG 6D Ultimate–though ASUS is going for an all-Snapdragon lineup this time around.

The Ultimate version gets a unique packaging and is bundled with the AeroActive Cooler 7. The new AeroActive Cooler is physically bigger because of its built-in subwoofer–on top of being a cooling fan that adds a USB port, headphone jack, and physical buttons for gaming.

The bulk of the ROG Phone 7’s upgrades are with its internals and cooling system: for the former, you are getting a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, along with up to 16GB LPDDR5X RAM, up to 512GB UFS 4.0 storage, and support for WiFi 7. The display–which is still a 165hz AMOLED display–now has a peak brightness of 1500nits and real-time SDR to HDR conversion. The front-facing speakers are also louder and have support for spatial audio, while the selfie camera now uses a 32-megapixel OV32C sensor.

For the internals, ASUS has made tweaks to the ROG Phone 7’s vapor chamber and graphite sheets for better thermal management. With the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate, combining the AeroActive Portal’s functionality with the AeroActive Cooler 7 can decrease back cover surface temperature by as much as 25 degrees Celsius.

The rear camera setup is still the same–50-megapixel IMX766 main, 13-megapixel ultra-wide, anf 5-megapixel macro–but ASUS made some optimizations to the main camera to include RAW super resolution and Light Trail Mode. The battery also remains the same: a dual-cell 6000mAh battery that supports 65w wired charging.

The vanilla ROG Phone 7 starts at 999 Euros (~Php 61.1k, without the AeroActive Cooler 7), while the Ultimate version is priced at 1399 Euros (~Php 85.5k, with the AeroActive Cooler 7). Both will be available for pre-order in Europe and Taiwan starting today.

Do note that European pricing is higher, so expect official pricing in the Philippines is much lower.
