ASUS ZenPower Review: Best Value-for-Money Powerbank Right Now

Your Next Powerbank for just P795!

For quite a while now the Xiaomi Powerbanks have held the title of being the best value-for-money and bang-for-your-buck powerbank in the Philippines. However that all changes with the entry of a fierce challenger: the ASUS ZenPower. Launched alongside the ASUS Zenfone 2, the ASUS ZenPower offers superb design, premium quality, loads of safety features, and a very competitive price tag. Simply put this is a lightweight, affordable, safe, and juiced up powerbank which is perfect for Pinoy techies and non-techies alike.

Just as Big as a Credit Card

The ASUS ZenPower (10,050mAh) is significantly smaller than the 10,400mAh powerbank of Xiaomi. It’s roughly the size of a credit card (obviously thicker but at least not as bulky). To give you guys an idea of the size here are a few reference shots for comparison:

As you can see in the photos, it has the same aluminium build and finish. LED indicator lights for battery are at the top together with the power button, USB slot, and micro USB slot. At the bottom is the product information print and up front is the ASUS logo.

Not bad right? It easily fits in your pocket and there’s no problem slipping it in your bag. You also won’t get “hand fatigue” should you decide to carry this with you while you’re using your smartphone while it’s being charged. It really ain’t bad for Php795.

Lots of Safety Features

ASUS also boasts of 11 safety features that they made sure they incorporated with the ASUS ZenPower. In a nutshell these are mostly hardware and power control/management parameters that will make sure it doesn’t blow up, overcharge, overheat, or short circuit. Here are all the features as listed on their site:

  • Temperature Protection
  • Short circuit Protection
  • Rest Protection
  • Input Over Voltage Protection
  • Output Over Voltage Protection
  • Input Reverse Direction Protection
  • Over Charge/ Over Discharge Protection
  • Output Over Current Protection
  • Cell PTC Protection
  • Adapter Protection
  • JEITA Protection (Temperature Proection)

The ASUS ZenPower can easily top up most smartphones at least twice. Based on our tests it was able to easily get our ASUS Zenfone 2 back to 100% 2.5x. That’s definitely impressive and it truly makes this a great investment since it literally extends the lifespan of your phone by more than 200%. It was also able to fully charge one of our tablets back to 100%.

What we did notice though was that it doesn’t live up 100% to the hype of delivering super high-speed charging. It does have 2.4A output but we saw that it still took it more than 2 and a half hours to fully recharge the ASUS Zenfone 2 back to 100%.

ASUS guarantees they will have stocks

Perhaps the most important thing about the ASUS ZenPower that people will love is that official stocks will be available in abundance. This should make it easier for people to get their hands on this product which is the main problem with the Xiaomi Powerbanks. Not only is it difficult to get because they’re just being sold online in flash sales, most of the ones available in malls are knock-offs.

Two thumbs up and we highly recommend this

We highly recommend the ASUS ZenPower. It delivers fantastic value for money and has check marks on all the stuff that matters, namely: style, function, power, safety, price, and availability.

We don’t have word yet on when it will officially be in most ASUS stores, retailers, and distributors but we hope that they do get these bad boys in shelves ASAP.
