Up to 150% more Battery
The biggest criticism people throw at the Apple iPhone 5 is usually the battery life. You will barely last a day without having to charge especially if you turn on LTE/4G. This “weakness” of the iPhone has opened a new product peripheral category of battery packs, cases, and stations. One good option that’s already available in the market is the Boostcase Hybrid Battery. As the name implies this isn’t just a battery pack, it can also be a slim and compact case. Read on for our review! 🙂
Two components: Case and Attachable Battery Pack
The Boostcase Hybrid Battery has two components: the snap-on back case and the battery pack. This is a major differentiating feature of this product compared to other battery pack cases. With the Boostcase Hybrid you can keep the slim and gorgeous form factor of the iPhone 5 while you still have battery by just using the snap-on case.
Once you need extra juice, all you have to do is take out the battery pack and slide in the phone (with the case) for more power.
The back of the battery pack has a micro USB port for charging as well as a triangular LED which acts as a charge/stop charging button and power indicator.
Yes sliding and docking in the phone will add bulk due to the battery pack but actually not by much. It’s one of the slimmer battery packs out in the market that has an integrated Lightning Connector.
Field Test: Roughly additional 110%-130% more battery
There are actually two models of the Boostcase Hybrid available. The one we bought had the higher battery rating of 2,200mAh or roughly an additional 150% moe power. In our field tests though we only got around 110%-130% extra but that’s not bad at all considering the size of the pack and the versatility of the product.
More battery meant more LTE hotspot time (hehe). Smart LTE has been very reliable since launch and we’ve been enjoying crazy download and upload speeds ever since. The iPhone 5 lets us take advantage of the LTE network even more while we’re on the go or even if we’re just in the office or at home. The problem is that it drains battery fast and that’s where the Boostcase comes in.
Verdict: Versatile Power Solution but a bit pricey
All-in-all the Boostcase Hybrid Battery is a fantastic product. Not only does it deliver in function but it also looks good too. By the way it comes in different colors so just pick the one that matches your personality.
Perhaps the only issue with this product is the price. It retails for Php3,950 which is probably already a 10,000mAh battery pack from other brands (but no case and all bulk). If you can afford it though we can definitely say that you’ll be enjoying your iPhone 5 much more thanks to the added juice and the preservation of the slim form factor.
The Boostcase Hybrid Battery is available in Digital Walker, Digital Hub, and Beyond the Box stores.
