Nothing is off limits to pirates
Local manufacturer Starmobile gave its customers and fans a heads-up today in their Facebook page, saying that bootleggers have started copying their batteries and selling them as the real deal. The pinoy brand is quick to point out that the counterfeit batteries are usually sold inside carton boxes, while the real deal is sealed in blister packs with the appropriate warning labels in the back. The colors for the logos for Twitter and Facebook are different as well.
A Starmobile exec told us that batteries isn’t the only thing that the bootleggers are copying, as the company knows that bootleg cases exist as well, though they’re less blatant (Starmobile branding, no Happy Man logo). Still, the bootleg batteries are a bigger source of concern compared to the cases, not just because of possible lost sales, but because of safety concerns as well – you don’t know where those came from, if they’ve passed QC, if they’re really safe to use, etc. Obviously Starmobile won’t be liable if something happens to your device if you put in counterfeit batteries. You’ve been warned.
