Cherry Mobile Silently Announces Flare Y5

While Cherry Mobile is busy preparing for its first 5G smartphone through a partnership with MediaTek, the Pinoy brand silently announced a new budget smartphone with the Flare Y5. Spotted in both Cherry Mobile’s Lazada and Shopee stores, the Flare Y5 is Cherry Mobile’s first smartphone to have Android 10 (Go Edition) out of the box. In fact, the Flare Y5 is one of the very few Android Go phones that rocks the latest version of Android—currently, there’s no phone in the market yet that has Android 11 (Go Edition).

Aside from the rather different back module design—where you have a circular module housing a single 8-megapixel rear camera, the Flare Y5 is a typical ultra-budget phone: Unisoc SC9832E processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, 5-megapixel front camera, and a 2000mAh battery. The display size was not disclosed from the listings, but we presume that it is a compact 5.45-inch display with an HD+ resolution.

The Flare Y5 sells for Php 2,999, which is a compelling price for those who want to try out Android 10 without spending that much cash.
