Samsung still ahead, but Cherry Mobile is closing in
We’ve always been interested to see just how many phones local brand Cherry Mobile sells in the Philippines. With their dizzying array of smartphone options and choices, the brand definitely moves a lot of product every month. Well now we know, in a way – in a survey of smartphone preferences in the Philippines by Jana, they found that Cherry Mobile was the third most owned brand overall, coming in at 17%. Samsung sits at 24%, while surprisingly enough, soon to be renamed Nokia sits on the top spot, at 28%. Rounding off the top 5 is Sony, at 9% and MyPhone, at 4%.
Another interesting fact about the study is that 85% of Filipinos are willing to buy locally branded smartphones, which explains the phenomenal growth of local brands and the amount of devices that they’ve managed to ship in the Philippines. While it’s a well known fact that Filipinos are brand conscious when it comes to products that they buy, we’re also very price sensitive, which also explains our willingness to purchase the different products that local brands offer.
