Cherry Mobile Leads in IDC’s 1H18 Report

vivo, Huawei experienced significant growth this year

International Data Corporation (IDC) Philippines released their 1H18 report and reveals that local brand Cherry Mobile remains to be the top vendor. One of the reasons that they remain on the top spot in spite of increasing competition from international brands is because of the market share, which is still dominated by the ultra low-end (~Php5.5k and below) market.

With the spending power of Filipinos increased, the low end (~Php 5.5k to ~Php 10.9k) and mid-range (~Php 10.8k-Php 21.7k) have increased market shares for this year. This led to significant growth for vivo and Huawei, who are the top 3 and top 5 vendors respectively.

“Keeping in mind that Filipinos remain to be price conscious and want to ensure they get the best value of their money, brands now highlight not only the quality of cameras but also features that make smartphone usage experience better such as near bezel-less screens, high-speed processors, quality speakers, AI features, and long battery life to ensure the customers that the brand is the bang for their buck,” IDC Philippines Market Analyst Polyne Gallevo said.

Cherry Mobile attempts to maintain its top spot with the unveiling of its Flare S7 series, led by the AI-powered Flare S7 Plus.
