Meet the Cherry Mobile Omega Icon!

It’s only been a day since Cherry Mobile teased their upcoming smartphone, the Omega Icon, on their Facebook page but it seems like they just couldn’t wait to unveil their new device. Today’s announcement also comes with the first detailed full body shot of the Omega Icon, and like we expected, it uses roughly the same faux leather (at least in appearance) as Samsung’s Note series of devices. Another interesting thing about the Icon is that it uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor instead of a MediaTek one.

Cherry Mobile Omega Icon

  • 1.2GHz quad-core processor
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 5-inch HD IPS display, Dragon Trail glass protection, 1280 x 720 resolution
  • 4GB internal storage, expandable via microSD up to 32GB
  • 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash
  • 5-megapixel front camera with LED flash
  • 3G, HSPA+
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • Android 4.3
  • Php 6,499

The Omega Icon will also carry a HD IPS display and have Dragon Trail glass protection. The Snapdragon 200 processor on the Omega Icon is good news since Qualcomm is more open to releasing the source code for their SoCs, which means there’s a distinct (if distant) possibility that the Omega Icon may get a KitKat upgrade sometime down the line. One can only hope.
