Counterpoint: Samsung has the Biggest Market Share in the Philippines for Q3 2019

The Korean brand grabbed a higher market gain for 2019

Samsung’s revamped strategy for its entry-level to mid-range offerings did pay off: according to Counterpoint’s Q3 2019 report, Samsung surpassed OPPO to take the top spot for the total market share shipment in the Philippines at 21%.

In comparison to last year’s report, Samsung has gained 4% compared to last year, while OPPO, vivo, and Cherry Mobile gained 2%, 3% and 1% in market share respectively. Huawei—who is in fifth place—suffered a 2% decline in market share.

With the third quarter being a seasonally slow period for the Philippines, Counterpoint notes that the local smartphone market decreased by 11% year-on-year due to customers holding on to their phones longer and due to them waiting for price cuts.

As for the top-selling phones, notable top-sellers include OPPO’s A5 2020 and A9 2020, vivo’s Y91 and Y91c, all of Samsung’s 2019 Galaxy A series, the Realme 5 and Realme 5 Pro, and Cherry Mobile’s Flare S8 series.
